Principal Investigator

Dr. Jie Feng
Jie Feng is Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Science & Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University under the guidance of Prof. Howard A. Stone, and did his postdoctoral research with Prof. Robert Prud’homme in Chemical & Biological Engineering at Princeton University before joining the University of Illinois in 2019. He received the Gordon Wu Prize for Excellence and Wallace Memorial Honorific Fellowship for exceptional promise in research from Princeton University in 2016.
Graduate Students

Vinit Kumar
Ph.D. student Mechanical Science and Engineering, 2019-
M.E. Mechanical Engineering,
IISc Bangalore, 2016
B.E. Mechanical Engineering,
YMCA University, 2014
Research focus: I am interested in the mechanics of vesicle encapsulation for effective and controlled delivery. By employing both theoretical modeling and experimental manipulations, I approach this challenge from multiple complementary angles.

SungGyu Chun
Ph.D student Mechanical Science and Engineering, 2019-
M.S. Mechanical Science and Engineering,
UIUC, 2014
B.S. Mechanical Science and Engineering,
UIUC, 2012
Research focus: I work on developing Flash-NanoPrecipitation platform for bioengineering nanoparticles and liposomes for agrochemical delivery and control release.

Zhengyu Yang
Ph.D student in Mechanical Science and Engineering, 2020-
B.E. Engineering Mechanics,
Tsinghua University, 2019
Research focus: I am interested in dynamics of bubbles and drops in complex fluids. I mainly work on the bubble bursting process, especially the droplets produced by bubble bursting and the pinching-off of liquid films and jets.
Undergraduate Students

Anxu Huang
B.S. Civil Engineering,
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2022
Research focus: I'm currently working with SungGyu Chun on investigating the flow behavior of non-Newtonian fluids in deformable microchannels, with a focus on the exploration of pressure-flow rate relation as well as the corresponding deformation of the wall.

Alice Lin
B.S. Mechanical Engineering,
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2023
Research focus: I am currently working with Professor Feng and SungGyu Chun on investigating the motion of confined bubbles in shear-thinning, viscoelastic fluids through experimental observations and theoretical analysis.
